Created by the Initiativkreis Ruhr association, ICM maintains its marketplace in the basement of its headquarters directly adjacent to the Bottrop central train station. This is where the organization’s partners can introduce themselves, and interested parties can come take a look at recommended products for energy renovations, energy service providers, or mobility. A supporter of the marketplace for many years, Evonik has an exhibit here showcasing a number of applications of CALOSTAT®, a non-flammable, high-performance insulating material. The ICM’s two permanent, on-site energy consultants offer 10 to 12 consulting sessions per week—and they demonstrate CALOSTAT® here as well.
“We’re happy to show people what’s possible,” explains René Pascheberg, the ICM marketing/communications project leader, who is particularly interested in the use of the material in renovations. “We have a huge need for energy renovations here—and this isn’t the only place. Because it’s such an outstanding insulator, I can see using CALOSTAT® in parts of buildings where there isn’t enough space for traditional insulating materials. Places like facing bricks, blocks along ceiling edges, dormers, or housing for roller blinds.”
The dedicated employees have already come very close to meeting ICM’s goal for 2020—to cut CO2 emissions in Bottrop by 50 percent over 2010 levels. Word is getting around about the success and the expertise that ICM has earned through InnovationCity Ruhr / Bottrop Model City. Experts are now supporting projects beyond the Ruhr region in cities such as Hamburg, Berlin, and Osnabrück. Maybe CALOSTAT® will soon play a part in developments there as well.
