Oilfield Chemicals

Oil production in the North Sea is a tricky business. Most of the oil deposits are mixed with loose sandstone.

The challenge is in producing the oil without producing sand. For this purpose, organic resins such as urea formaldehyde, melamine and other resins are used in combination with organofunctional silanes to strengthen the sandstone. Stone consolidation is even possible with silanes alone due to their special reactivity towards mineral surfaces and their special crosslinking properties.
