Dr. Philipp Albert, senior scientist for Functional Silanes will give insights on Dynasylan^® chromium-free, water-based sol-gel systems for metal corrosion protection formulations at this years’ International Symposium on Silicon Chemistry.
The market is currently looking for alternative systems since chromate-based treatments are being phased out and other surface pre-treatment processes still use aggressive media and chemicals with high environmental impact. The new water-borne sol-gel and silane systems offered by Evonik Degussa provide an environmentally friendly basis with outstanding features. The organofunctional group in these systems reacts with the topcoat; the inorganic functionality with the metal surface. Along with an excellent wetting effect, the high crosslinking density prevents water and chloride penetration.
