Metals are protected from corrosion by chromium (VI) treatment, (zinc) phosphatization, and electrochemical galvanization. These surface treatments are well established and are of utmost economic importance. However, many industries do not approve the use of chromating with chromium (VI) due to reasons of occupational safety and environmental protection.

Evonik’s new water-borne silane binders are the answer for high preformance similar to chromium (VI) but without affecting occupational safety and the environment and also simplify the pre-treatment process. Water-borne silane binders play an increasingly important role in these new metal corrosion protection systems.
