Four from a Single Source

Evonik Industries presents four product lines at FEICA EXPO 2008

There's hardly any formulation in the adhesives and sealants industry today that doesn't use products from Evonik Industries. In AEROSIL® fumed silica, Dynasylan® silanes, PRINTEX® carbon black pigments, and SIPERNAT® specialty silica, Evonik’s Polymer & Ink Solutions Market Segment offers four indispensable products. At least one component from this product range, and sometimes even two or three, are constituents of many adhesives and sealants.

With a range of four product lines, Evonik is exhibiting for the first time at

FEICA EXPO 2008 in Marseilles, France, between September 10 and 12.

Evonik's presentation at this event highlights the synergies that can be achieved through the recent combining of these four product lines in the Inorganic Materials Business Unit: All the four product groups are now centrally managed and marketed together. This greatly simplifies matters for the customer, who can access the complete product range from a single source and via a single contact.

The four product lines of the Inorganic Materials Business Unit offer innovative solutions in the following fields:

AEROSIL® Fumed Silica is used where adhesives and sealants are required to replace mechanical fastening systems such as screws and rivets. This is becoming increasingly common not only in aeronautical engineering but also in the automotive industry, where the use of adhesives results in improved crash stability.

Dynasylan® is the powerful brand name for high-performance silanes that have contributed to many excellent products in the adhesives and sealants community; very recently, for example, they have been used for reduction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in adhesion promoters. Other excellent properties include the capacity to systematically modify polymer systems, and to eliminate water from systems.

PRINTEX® carbon black pigments are used particularly in the automotive industry in high-tech windshield adhesives. They make the adhesive particularly stable and facilitate its application. Printex® or Special Black grades from Evonik are used wherever adhesives or sealants are required to be especially UV stable or where jet-black coloring of systems is required.

SIPERNAT® specialty silicas are an attractive option for formulators of adhesives, to replace inactive fillers such as chalk and thus to obtain improved mechanical properties. Additionally, SIPERNAT® specialty silicas improve storage properties, for example in polysulfide sealing compounds, and also the flow properties of hot melts.

FEICA (Fédération Européenne des Industries de Colles et Adhésifs), founded in 1972, is an association of European adhesives and sealants manufacturers. It organizes an annual European Adhesives & Sealants symposium and the associated trade show, FEICA EXPO.
